Experienced Service Providers in Echuca, Moama & Rochester

About Newton's Bus Service

Since 1952, Newton's Bus Service has proudly served the communities of Echuca, Moama, and Rochester. Originally founded by James (Jim) and Isabel Newton with just one school bus, we’ve grown to become a trusted local transport provider. Over the years, we've expanded our services to meet the needs of our community, offering everything from school bus services to charter trips, self-drive bus hire, and more.

By 1970, we recognised the need for broader transport options and began offering an extensive passenger service. In 1973, Jim and Isabel saw a rising demand for charter vehicles in the area, prompting them to purchase their first multi-purpose charter vehicle. Our fleet has since expanded to include various sizes of charter vehicles, meeting the diverse needs of our clients.

In 1977, after Isabel’s passing, their daughter Roslyn and her husband Fred returned to help Jim manage the business. By 1979, Fred and Roslyn purchased the business, renaming it James Newton’s Bus Services. Jim retired shortly after due to health reasons.

After Jim’s passing in 1982, Fred and Roslyn continued to grow the business. They launched the Rochester town service in partnership with V-Line, offering public transport to the area on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a service that continues today.

As the business expanded, Fred and Roslyn’s son, David, completed a Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship in 1992. Recognised for his outstanding workmanship, David became the head mechanic and further developed his understanding of the business.

Today, Newton’s Bus Service is led by David Ind, our owner and Managing Director. We remain a family-owned and operated business committed to providing safe, reliable, and modern transport services. We’re dedicated to maintaining personalised service for all our clients, ensuring each journey is smooth and professional.

Supporting our local community has always been at the heart of our business. During the 2011 Rochester Flood Crisis, we played a crucial role in the safe evacuation of the community and local health services. Additionally, we contribute to local schools and community organisations through service donations and financial support.
